;; rainfall [/size] [/center] The sun was warm despite of its windy counterpart. Which was a hateful breeze, a harbinger of frost and hunger. Yet in these open fields of sunshine and the smell of grass, Rainfall tried to forget about the impending leaf-bare. The sun warmed his face especially, its rays always favouring to heat the dark patterns on his fur, and he'd already started to purr.
He rolled onto his back to warm up his stomach, the momentary atmosphere was as warm as a moss bed with a she-cat. The tom didn't stay on his back for long before he rolled back over to his stomach, still lounging. It passed his mind to go out for a hunt as the wind kicked up and carried leaves from distant trees and scents from distant prey across the clearing.
This breeze would not give the ghost, as it kept dying and then picking back up again. Rainfall's comfortable sun was nearly useless as this point, he could hardly feel it any more. What a shame, he'd been looking forward to a lazy day.
Hunting wasn't as exciting as sparring (some cats preferred hunting rather than sparring, he'd noticed, and thought them strange) but he always felt guilty if he didn't return to camp with news or food.
Maybe there'd be a ShadowClan patrol he could mess with at the edge of their borders. This sounded more exciting. There wasn't anyone expecting him back any time soon, so he figured why not. He could always try to grab something on his way back.
He sauntered off across the field, in no hurry to go really there.

StarClan, did he love his freedom.
It was quiet and solitary today, allowing him to sort out his thoughts. Honestly, it felt nice to be alone, until he wanted company again. Frostpaw was out gathering moss for bedding and after scraping up too much from the trees to carry in his jaws, he managed to roll it up in a ball to push. Batting the tumbling green ball had turned into a game and he realized as he smacked the makeshift toy far ahead, there was no one there to catch it.
Running ahead to fetch his moss before he lost sight of it, Frostpaw heard footsteps before he scented anything. Opening his jaws, paw placed firmly on the moss, he caught the scent of a clanmate before they came into view. The white tom grinned, mischievously looking downwards before up at the warrior. "'Ey, Rainfall!" He greeted, tail whisking behind him. There couldn't have been a border patrol going on with the siamese tom padding around solo. He didn't seem to be doing anything too important either, so Frostpaw came to the conclusion that he wouldn't be interrupting much.
Warriors were always supposed to be alert and aware, regardless if they were on their own territories or not - Darkthorn had taught him that during their first training session. Glancing at the ball of moss, a quiet chuckle left the apprentice and pulling his paw back, he slapped the ball and launched it in Rainfall's direction. "Catch, furball!"
Not the kindest of words, but definitely not the rudest. The grin on his face and spark in his eyes told that he was simply playing, filled with the boundless energy that one would most likely expect from a cat so young. He hopped on his paws impatiently, wishing that Rainfall wouldn't be a downer and catch onto the game. He did give fair warning for him to 'catch', after all... even if it was only a heartbeat of a second.

;; rainfall [/size] [/center] The warrior had not been paying close enough attention to the scents in the air to be expecting his name being called out. His ears pricked as it did and, with no alarm at all, he turned to look towards the white apprentice. Rainfall had nothing to fear on his own territory, he'd always felt. It was secure and safe for the cat who belonged to it.
The one was Frostpaw, who called out his name. The warrior recognized him instantly by his eyes, confirming it by tasting the scent of the young tom. He was going to smile at the youthful ball of energy before a wad of moss was tossed at him.
This surprise caused Rainfall to jump and twist, over dramatically, in a desperate, in-the-moment attempt to catch the moss ball. He ended up with the ball under his paws regardless of the melodramatic reaction (although whether he caught the ball or simply landed on it was negotiable).
Rainfall stuffed the moss into his mouth and trotted over to the white tomcat, dropping it before his paws. "Finally got you on those exciting apprentice duties?" The warrior teased with a smirk, crystal blue eyes glancing over to the two-leg bridge and back to Frostpaw. "I was gonna go see if some ShadowClan cats wanted a tussle," He explained, lowering his voice and leaning in closer to Frostpaw as if this task was extremely taboo and mischievous.
He then drew back and laughed, "Although I'm not sure the spineless cowards would stay long enough for even a little bit of fun to be had!"

The leap and twirl had caused Frostpaw to stare in anticipation, wondering if the sudden jump had earned Rainfall a good catch. The white tomcat wasn't too sure, but the brown tom had the ball pinned firmly under his paw and that was all that mattered in the apprentice's game. "And the catch is good!"
He grinned as Rainfall brought the wad of moss back over to him and he shuffled on his paws, almost embarrassed as the warrior mentioned his apprentice duties. He nonchalantly pressed the issue away with a tilt of his head, "Well, somecat's gotta get them done," And that was the truth. Frostpaw had been preparing to ask the warrior if he had time to pass around the moss ball a few more times, but as Rainfall leaned closer and quietly told him what he was up to, Frostpaw found that much more interesting than his wad of bedding.
The cat's eyes lit up instantly as the brown tom recoiled and laughed. Frostpaw found himself nodding in agreement, "Yeah! And you know how they are anyway, they've got tongues sharper than their claws!" He had heard a ShadowClan patrol grumbling around a few dawns ago, complaining about the border stink and how the fish smell had reached into their territory. And that was all they did, fuss and mumble about it. Silly swamp cats. He did admit that he admired them and their own special ways of living even though that didn't change what a sour bunch they were.
Looking at Rainfall, his expression still bright with the expectation of coming across a ShadowClan cat, he prompted, "Are we gonna go have some fun or stand around scraping up moss?"

;; rainfall [/size] [/center] The tomcat gave a bellowing laugh, ending it with a playful smirk. “Now that’s an attitude I’d like to see in my fellow RiverClan cats more often!” He trotted a bit passed the young tomcat, his long furred tail hanging high above his ears.
Rainfall wasn’t sure if there would be a ShadowClan patrol, but he hoped they would be trying to hold up their borders like they were paranoid. Otherwise, this trip to the border would be boring. Casually, he wondered if there might be some trouble waiting back in the camp if they picked a fight. Yet it wasn’t as if the tomcat had intentions of antagonizing the enemy cats, only asking them for a friendly spar. Sometimes fighting with RiverClan cats got so lame. For the most part, they fought in the style as the rest of the Clan. Like an ancient fighting ritual that was carried in the clan forever.
The point cat bounded towards the tall pines that marked ShadowClan’s territory. Already he could feel his paws itching and the blood pounding through his entire body. The rust of the simple idea of a fight was enough. He started to doubt his ability to negotiate, but it didn’t really matter. ShadowClan cats were enemies anyway and RiverClan didn’t have any strong alliances with them as far as Rainfall was concerned.
For the first time, though, he wondered about the strength of the apprentice trailing him. Hopefully Frostpaw knew how to fight. “Darkthorn has been teaching you good fighting methods, I hope?” The warrior asked, with a little bit of a mocking tone in his voice toward the young tom‘s mentor. He wasn’t nervous for the apprentice, if the answer was no it would just mean Rainfall would have to look after the young tom.

Frostpaw was beginning to wish that he had spent entirely more time with the point-colored tom. He was good, interesting, company and it was hard for the white apprentice to believe that he was a warrior and moons ahead of him! As Rainfall padded past him and began on his way towards the treeline, Frostpaw followed eagerly, the scent of the border prodding at his senses.
As Rainfall's pace quickened, Frostpaw's paws beat the solid ground rhythmically as he attempted to match the other cat's step, falling back in line slightly behind him. "My ears are tingling," He said out loud as they moved towards the border, eyes trained ahead of him on whatever lurked near the border, "That's a good sign." The snowy apprentice could even feel it in the shortest whiskers of his face - they were going to find somecat there. Besides, they had come out at the perfect time of day, there was bound to be a patrol - hunting or border - that managed to paw their way close to RiverClan. Frostpaw didn't doubt it that the nosy fox-brains probably often scoured the border just to see what happenings were going on in the water cat's territory. However, that didn't mean that Frostpaw was looking for a serious claws and fangs confrontation. He wasn't scared, no, not at all! Though he was sure any cat with a good mind would prefer bickering rather than bruised sides and sore ears.
His thoughts left the rival Clan as Rainfall mentioned his fighting methods. Frostpaw nodded in response, slowing finally from their quick bounds, "You bet! Good enough where I'll probably be watching your tail, Rainfall." A mocking purr of his own rumbled its way up before fading and Frostpaw stepped as close to the border as possible without crossing, shaking his head briefly at the strong scent of ShadowClan.

The words sends shivers of excitement pulsing down the warrior's spine. Creamy brown fur pricked in anticipation as he slowed by the border. The scent that drifted across the border was almost too overwhelming. His dark brown paws pranced close to the invisible line that they all seemed to watch like hawks. He held a wide grin on his face, his tail high, and his ears pricked.
If it could, when Frostpaw told the tomcat I'll probably be watching your tail, his smile got wider. "Well I'm glad to have such a strong cat on my side of the border!" He exclaimed, playfully pouncing towards Frostpaw and landing only a whisker away.
The tomcat then leaped away and smelt the air, trying to taste anything other than the stinky border. Cats, he was trying to find beyond all the smells that made his nose burn, cats! A gust of wind blew that unforgiving leaf-fall chill, but also the scent of a warm body. What luck! He could smell at least one cat on this wind. The gust lifted and fell too quickly for him to take in everything there was to smell from those shadowy pines.
"Do you smell that?" He exclaimed airily, as if he had been trying to whisper but failed. After a pause, in which his tail flicked wildly back and forth, he added, "Aside from that rotting vole scent!"
This statement was followed by a bellowing laugh, Rainfall pacing across the the border, laughing like a hyena.[/style] | [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0px,true][cs=2][atrb=vAlign, bottom][atrb=style, width: 420px; background: url('http://i.imgur.com/gdBBi.png'); -moz-border-radius: 0px 0px 30px 30px; -o-border-radius: 0px 0px 30px 30px; border-radius: 0px 0px 30px 30px; -webkit-border-radius: 0px 0px 30px 30px;] [style=font-size: 26px; font-family: verdana; color: #648db8; text-shadow: 2px 2px 5px #b7b7b7; margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: -5px;]you can save face[/style][style=background: #4c85c1; opacity: 0.6; font-family: verdana; font-size: 8px; letter-spacing: 4px; text-align: justify; -moz-border-radius: 15px; -webkit-border-radius: 15px; -o-border-radius: 15px; border-radius: 15px; padding: 2px; margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; color: #466484;]but you won't ever save your soul.[/style] |

Violetwhisper Everybody freeze - don't step over the line Don't stand up, they'll shoot down the first one who tries Her eyes were dark, and her claws were extended. Her apprentice was worthless. He'd never learn anything She walked through the forest her claws slicing through the pine needles with perfect precision. She coulding believe how mousebrained her apprentice was. Galepaw is a disgrace to Shadowclan She thought flicking her ears back against her skull. Her body folded like shadows through the dark wood and she let her violet eyes flash with a suttle hatred for him. There was nothing worse than a halfwitted shadowclanner, it made the whole clan look bad. A clan that wise prided on their cunning, and wits, an apprentice with neither of those, and no promise was a disgrace and she of course would be looked down upon because he was hers. Even if she wasn't his first mentor. The blame would fall on her shoulders. She growled and lashed her tail tearing again at the ground around her as she walked toward the border. She needed to remind herself that she was worthy to call herself SHadowclan, and a fight would do just that. Riverclan seemed to be crossing the border more and more. HEr mind flicked back to Jadesong and her encounter with the stupid Riverclanner. She sighed and paused just inside the trees at the edge of the fields that held the border.
Her ears flipped forward pricked and listening as a cackle hit her ears, blatant and unrelenting. She crouched down her black pelt easily hidden in the trees as she stared towards the border scanning up and down trying to locate the source. Her eyes fell on the dark pelt of a warrior his head up and laughter ringing clearly across the open field. The cold breeze was behind her blowing her scent down the field and dirsctly toward the tom. She flicked her ears and stood flashing excitement in her eyes. There was no way to sneak up as she'd done with Jadesong, but that didn't matter today. She wasn't out to scare them, she wanted a good fight. She took off towards the border her heart pounding with her pawsteps as they thundered toward the border. She slowed to a stop a whisker from the border and was surprised to see a white tom she hadn't noticed before. His eyes were two different colors, and he didn't recognize them. She flicked her ears and lashed her tail trying to decide how to respond to the two toms at the border.
She spoke her voice soft, yet authoritative, calm yet commanding "So Riverclan is finally teaching their apprentices about borders, how nice." She tilted her head toward the larger of the two and assumed that he was the mentor "Perhaps you can teach them to keep on their side of the border and keep your fishy-stink off our land" Her eyes flashed with challenge and hunger for battle, but she forced it away quickly, that side of her frightened her a little bit. She glanced at the white apprentice and looked him over. She wasn't sure she could take on both of them, but perhaps if they were to spar...she could take them on she would have no worry of getting hurt, and would take nothing noticeable back to camp. She flicked her tail and looked back at Rainfall though she knew not his name and decided that she didn't want to appear threatening. She pulled her haunches under her and sat wrapping her dark tail around her dark paws transforming her into a shadow except for her white whiskers and violet eyes which were focused on the two toms waiting for their reply.
Try to change the world, they'll think you're out of your mind Revolutions start when someone crosses the line (Lyrics Credit to "Cross the Line" by Superchick)

Rainfall sure did give good compliments. When the tom bounced in his direction, he jumped, backpedaling a bit sloppily, tail raised and twisting in the air. The white tom let out his surprise in the form of a nervous chuckle and averted his eyes back across the border when Rainfall hopped away again, making pace back and forth the invisible line that separated RiverClan from ShadowClan.
Just as Rainfall mentioned the terrible odor, Frostpaw's nose scrunched as the wind blew, pelting him with the heavy scent of marsh and... cat. He stood on alert, pressing himself back close towards the borders, paws mere mouse steps from crossing. In doing this, he wasn't breaking any rules... none at all. "Do you smell that?" He asked, his whisper much more practiced than his warrior companion's who had a penchant for spreading his jovial laughter. "Somecat's there."
The first thing he heard were the sound of faint steps, barely detectable. Then, he saw those bright purple orbs, like flowers in Newleaf, which was accompanied by a sleek, definitive voice. The comment about the borders simply made Frostpaw smirk, "Yeah, great day for checking the borders. Just making sure that you ShadowClan cats don't bring your lizard-bellied faces too close." There was a lilt of laughter in his voice, eyes dancing, showing that it wasn't in his nature to cause any reckless violence. He remained close to the border, leaning forward so that his head was in the other Clan's territory. "Look, Rainfall, no paws!"
Frostpaw withdrew, smiling, frosty fur flattened as he watched the she-cat sit patiently, her tail curling daintily about herself. "Are you going to sit and watch us? Rainfall and I are quite handsome, after all." The apprentice took a seat as well, glancing at Rainfall. Was he approving?

“Sneak, sneak, sneak...”
Snowpaw shuffled through the little undergrowth that the fields on their border with RiverClan gave. He tried the best as he could to wait for an older warrior to visit the scene since he somehow watched the two RiverClan cats linger around their border. Although the two cats seemed friendly enough in Snowpaw’s point of view, he remembered being taught not to trust other Clans easily. Was it Redpaw or Thunderbrook who told me that? I forgot. Nevertheless, the message got to him. Besides, this could be his first border scuffle in his life and all he needed was a teammate.
"Climb, climb, climb..."
He scrambled up one of the few trees that dot the area, keeping a lookout for the RiverClanners. As he reached a branch that gave him a perfect view of the other cats, an older ShadowClan warrior, the she-cat called Violetwhisper, came. He had heard from other apprentices that Violetwhisper was a stern mentor to her apprentice, Galepaw. Of course, Snowpaw believed the stories, albeit quite biased. The white apprentice now thinks of her as a strong and independent cat, despite her sweet appearance and how the others’ rumours of her being a violent and aggressive cat with a sharp tongue.
And then, the taunts and swaggers began. It was only Violetwhisper and the other snowy pelted RiverClan apprentice, like Snowpaw, that battled with their insults at first. This made Snowpaw curious about what the two of them was talking about. For sure, all of them were just harsh words spat at each other, but cats are curious by nature and Snowpaw can’t help it if he was a cat. He leaned towards the end of the branch he was perching at, hoping he could hear better of the conversation, but the branch broke away. Snowpaw fell, but landed perfectly on all fours.
Finding himself in the scene with the other three cats, Snowpaw didn’t know what to do at the moment. He puffed his chest, trying to look older, smarter and stronger than what he is. “Ha! You didn’t see me coming, right!” The white apprentice couldn’t tell anything other than that, though. He wasn’t like his brother that can think of insults without even making an effort.

He could hardly contain himself as his fur pricked up. This ShadowClan cat seemed to be trying to come off as hostile, but he could sense the mood of the exchange.
Frostpaw's enthusiasm only fuelled his own. The young tom was clever and carefree, and Rainfall almost wished he was Frostpaw's mentor, as Violetwhisper had assumed. Rainfall laughed at the apprentice's joke while he teetered by the invisible border. He put a paw forward, opened his maw, but before he could respond to the remarks the young tom made, another ShadowClan cat dropped in.
This moment was only getting better and better. Rainfall let another laugh escape him, looking approvingly at the white ShadowClan tom. "Why no!" He laughed freely, "Seems you are trying to teach your apprentices the same thing, eh?"" He called back at Violetwhisper, now proceeding closer to the border and Frostpaw. He gave the young apprentice a approving smile before turning his dark brown face back to the tree line.
"Why don't we teach 'em a little thing or two about fights?" The tomcat playfully suggested, "Put to test all those scary kit stories about the ferocity of ShadowClan?" He suggested, his large, black tail happily whipping behind him. He looked to the "enemy" white apprentice, wondering if it would make more sense if warrior took warrior in this fight or if an apprentice took on a warrior.
Certainly an apprentice would lean more from a cat with more experience. But who was to say? There was, also, the idea that Violetwhisper would be too harsh on the poor, carefree RiverClan youth.
