Slowly, ever so slowly Russetclaw tracked the rabbit. It's scent washed over his tongue like water over a rock, drawing him on. He flicked his tail and dropped to a hunters crouch as the brown fluff finally caught his eye about three or four fox lengths ahead of him. He was downwind, so he knew it couldn't smell him, but there was something odd about this rabbit. It was large and seemed to have claws longer than he remembered ever having seen on a rabbit before. He shook the thought from his head and moved his back legs into charging position. As he launched himself forward the rabbit turned to see him, but it wasn't a rabbit at all. It was a dog, and it's snapping jaws and lolling tongue sent his heart rate thumping into overdrive. Before he knew what was happening the dog was on him snapping at his throat and clawing at his sides. He reached up and scratched at it's face feeling fur catch in his paws. It leaped back and it gave him a chance to roll away.
As he rolled to his paws and looked up he saw the camp around him, his heartbeat was still pumping, and he could still feel the dog's fur in his claws, but the dog was nowhere to be seen. His eyes wide with fear he leaped to his paws and spun expecting it to be behind him. Seeing only the peaceful camp, he looked down at his paw seeing a leaf stuck in his outstretched claw. He looked to where he had been sleeping realization and embarrassment sweeping over him like a cloud. A branch of fallen leaves had drifted over his nest while he slept...the twigs seeming like a dogs claws and teeth, and the leaves themselves like the dogs fur. He shook out his fur and let his heartbeat slow down. He sat wrapping his tail around his paws and lifting his paw to get the leaf unstuck. Starclan PLEASE tell me no one saw that... he prayed trying to force his fur to lie flat.

The fluffy white she-cat had woken up early that day and had decided it would be rather nice and enjoyable to sit back and just imagine all the wonderful things that could happen. True love could stumble in, couldn’t it? Yes, it could. The perfect tom, there to whisk Sheepfur and her big, innocent blue eyes off her paws and away to a fantastical land full of magic and wonder and hope and dreams-come-true. But, of course, this probably was not going to happen, but this ugly truth had yet to rear its filthy head in the young warrior’s mind. No, she was still quite in the world of the kit, dreaming of joy and mirth and silliness and fun and love and romance and all those sorts of things that a relationship with StarClan wasn’t going to solve. Actually, StarClan did not interest Sheepfur quite so much as it would interest others. She always wondered why, though, since wasn’t StarClan really just a bunch of dead cats? Like, like, like… what if you killed a cat? Would you then revere that cat as all-knowing? Does wisdom instantly occur upon the moment after your last breath? And what made this possible?
Not too many of those questions actually popped into Sheepfur’s admittedly small mind, especially not the deep ones, but it was a fact that when it came to StarClan, Sheepfur wasn’t the most avidly faithful. She believed and trusted, sure, as any good Clan cat did, but that was about as far as she went. While she wasn’t actually pondering these things but just staring into space, a flash of fur and leaves caught her attention. Her pure blue eyes shifted from the sky to the tomcat who appeared to be wrestling with his den, and then wrestling with embarrassment and chagrin at (or is it with, then?) himself.
Tilting her head, Sheepfur rose to her paws and approached Russetclaw. He always seemed like a nice cat to her. “Are you… okay there?” she asked him, her ears flicking. The only expression in her face was a sort of puzzled concern. It wasn’t the sort that was, “What? You’re crazy? Okay, well, I love you, but let’s put you in a dark cave because I don’t understand you”, no, it was more of, “Did something happen to startle you? I don’t know if I understand what’s going on here” sort of thing. Y’know? Russetclaw was not exactly the tom of her dreams – he wasn’t perfect, that she knew of – but Sheepfur was prone to… hidden amorous attachments because of eye contact once or other silly things. She was very much a kit in many ways, though her body was that of an adult. Perhaps it was her lack of siblings that made her so secretly odd, but perhaps it was something entirely else, something random and silly, just as the poofy kitty is herself.
OOC: I'm sorry that this post is so ridiculously late! These last few weeks have been really hectic for me D:

Russetclaw I’m trying to keep my cool I know it shows Still trying to force his fur to lie flat, and get that stubborn leaf removed from his claw he didn't hear the she-cat walk up. Stupid leaf... He thought pulling it from his claw and wincing slightly, as it twisted awkwardly. It was then that her voice caught his attention and he turned, the leaf still in his mouth by the stem. Are you… okay there? the pretty she-cat had seen him. mouse dung he thought and racked his brain trying to come up with a way to play it cool. Suddenly her realized the leaf was still in his mouth. Expelling air quickly he turned his head to one side. The leaf floated gently down beside him and he flicked his tail turning his attention back to the pretty she-cat. His orange fur still stuck up in places, and he still looked like he'd just risen from his nest, because, well he had. He was slightly self-concious about the way he looked, but not enough for him to take much notice of. He smiled sheepishly at Sheepfur his green eyes flashing with humor at himself and embarrassment of the situation. "Yes, I'm alright. It was just a dream. Bad though it was." He flashed her a genuine smile and flicked his ears toward the branch that had fallen over his nest. "I wasn't expecting to be attacked in the middle of the night." He said humor dancing in his gaze and woven through his tone.
He looked around the camp, his eyes taking in everything, from the apprentices den to Snowstar's den. He rolled his shoulders back and stretched, lowering his front end down to the ground and digging his claws into the grass as he pulled back lashing his tail and feeling his muscles stretch. He closed his eyes and took in the scents of the clan. Sheepfur's was the strongest, for she was the closest, and her scent washed over him, covering him in a warm, comfortable, and very familiar scent. He stood up and turned his green gaze toward her. "Would you care to join me on a hunt?" His words were calm, but he truly hoped she would join him. He didn't know her well, but felt that as deputy he could get to know as much about the warriors as he could. He was sociable, but he'd been so preoccupied with his new duties, he hadn't been able to catch up on the clan gossip. Hopefully today would change that. Thinking again to how he looked and he felt his ears growing hot with embarrasment, and flicked them back hoping she couldn't tell how embarassed he was that she had seen him in such a state, and acting like such a mousebrain.
