names:
gender: she-cat; also of note, she is a heteroromantic bisexual, meaning she is attracted to both sexes but only pursues relationships with toms.
age: eight moons
clan: WindClan
rank: apprentice
personality: Mothpaw, first of all, is a pretty cheerful cat. She likes to laugh and joke around with other cats, but she likes to do it with the warriors. (This is partly because she thinks she's too mature for the other apprentices, but whether this is true or not is up for debate.) She also has an odd sense of humor, on occasion, such as saying things she doesn't mean just to get a reaction out of others. Her sense of humor can also tend toward the mean side--funny comments at someone else's expense are not at all out of the ordinary, and can hurt whether she means them to or not.
Another thing: she can be manipulative. Not on a large scale, and she's not particularly cunning about it, but manipulative all the same. Mothpaw isn't malicious, but she isn't above getting others in trouble, either, and doubtless she could become quite good at manipulation after a few more moons.
Mothpaw is also quite intelligent, but not braggingly so; she worries about being shunned if she shows off, and so doesn't. She often gets things on the first or second try that are a struggle for others to learn. She tries not to brag except to her friends, but then she tends to go overboard.
However, she does get frustrated if someone else takes a while to get what she learned easily, and often becomes snappish. She also tends to be overly sarcastic and critical with various things, whether said thing deserves it or not. Mothpaw tends to hold grudges, as well, and stick to her first impressions unless they're stomped into the ground.
Also (and I realize this entire section has no particular order; my apologies), Mothpaw is frequently crass, piling on innuendo whether it's called for or not. She likes to swear a good bit, too.
Oh, and the one thing she cannot abide by is laziness. It disgusts her, and she always tries to be doing SOMETHING as opposed to sitting around.
appearance: Mothpaw is a light brown tabby with dark yellow eyes. She is quite a bit smaller than a few of her littermates and older cats, which gets on her nerves at times. As far as abilities go, she's more strong than fast, although she's not outstanding in either area; she's also about as flexible as a stick. What she really prides herself on are her jumps; no-one's measured them, but she knows she can go pretty far, and enjoys hiding in the grass and pouncing on her friends as a joke. Her tail is also a bit longer than is proportionate.
history: Mothpaw is the daughter of Suneyes and Mudspot, born in their first litter along with two others: Larkkit, her sister, and Waspkit, a brother who took sick and died shortly after. Waspkit's death is really the worst thing to happen in the young apprentice's life, and even that didn't affect her much--the kits were only a few weeks old. Sunfur and Mudspot aren't bad parents, either, just inexperienced. Mothpaw was apprenticed at the same time as her sister and has since taken well to life in training.
She has a few friends in the Clan that she's not particularly close to, partly because they're young and partly because Mothpaw would rather tag along with warriors. (The warriors don't always take kindly to this, and more often than not shoo her away to play with the other apprentices.) She tends to hang out with her sister more than anything, really. In the future I'd like to torture her a little more, though.
sample rp: Mothpaw crouched low in the tall grass, watching her target carefully and without blinking. Her instinct was to let her long tail lash, but she had already been scolded for that once before, so she kept it down and out of sight.
Her target drew closer, well within her range. One. Her muscles tensed, ready to spring. Two. What if she messed this up again? No time to think of that now. Three. Mothpaw pushed against the ground and leapt into the air.
Even in that split second, she had time to think and orient herself; she twisted a little so that she wasn't on the verge of a miss, and would've landed squarely on her target's tawny-furred back. Then said target turned around at the last second and lashed out with one paw, pinning Mothpaw to the ground.
Mothpaw scowled and twisted out from under the paw so she wouldn't have to see the amused look on her father's face. That was twice in a row that he'd gotten her before she could lay a paw on him. "How did you know this time?" The words came out as more of a whiny mew than she meant them to.
"First, I was downwind from you." Mothpaw didn't have to see Suneyes to know that he was holding back a laugh; she felt herself grow warm. Such a stupid mistake! But she'd remember now. She knew from experience that once she had made an embarrassing mistake, she rarely made it again. "Second, I heard you jump—not loudly, just the sound of paws against the ground." Suneyes rested his muzzle on top of her head for a moment. "I was expecting something like this, and I had already smelled you. Otherwise, I never would have noticed."
Mothpaw ducked away from him—she had never been very touchy, and it wouldn't do to have her father babying her in front of the other warriors after she'd already embarrassed herself. "Alright." She tried to appear nonchalant about the whole thing, but didn't think she succeeded. "I just wanted to try that again—my mentor's probably looking for me."
"Are you on patrol behind us?" Suneyes asked.
"Yes," Mothpaw lied smoothly. In truth, she was supposed to be back at camp, but she wasn't going to let Suneyes know that. They were only a few foxlengths away from camp anyway; it wasn't like she had gone all the way to the border by herself. "But I told 'em I'd be back soon and I waited for you for a while. I'll see you later."
If Suneyes caught the lie, he didn't challenge it—he just nodded at her and turned back to his patrol. Mothpaw turned away, suppressing a sigh of relief, and headed back to camp. With any luck, she'd get to spar today.
characters: This is my first.
c-box name: Moth.
other: Is it alright if I use Mothpaw's family as sort of side characters? I don't want to make profiles for them, but they'd be useful for trading dialogue with at the fresh-kill pile in a scene-setting post, and I wouldn't have them interact with anyone but Moth.
