personality:
Ferretpaw may naturally seem simple from the reasonable perspective, often able to be summed up in a description of one word. Occasionally his Clanmates generously offer many suggestions like 'nuisance', or 'arrogant'. Ferretpaw has few friends and even fewer those who understand him, leading to the truth of his character remaining overlooked. Complexity disguises itself in the obvious display of simplicity, so any judgment from the outside is misguided. With flaw and flair is what Ferretpaw is constructed on, which is usually unnoticed -- even by Ferretpaw himself.
Somewhere in his kithood, Ferretpaw must have developed a warped sight of his purpose and placement. His need to indentify himself separately from his sister perhaps furthered the blossoming traits of boldness and curiousity, creating the foundation of his arrogance and troublesome tendecies. Ferretpaw was most likely underlining the fact that he was not his sister and was not characterized by expectations based upon himself by his sister's mannerisms. Since then it has become blended into his personality, being more of a part of him now than a form of rebellion against his family. He appears arrogant through his often rude and shameless comments that are freely given with very little care to hold them back. He's a naturally bold and loud sort of cat, and wants to make sure you know he's there. Ferretpaw never did like to fade into the background, even when it becomes necessary to do so.
Most cats take for granted the qualities that Ferretpaw does have, even Ferretpaw himself. As much as you might think that Ferretpaw is a coward and an idiot, his intelligence is honestly something that can be admired. Of his many habits, watching others is a hobby of his. While most take this as impolite staring, Ferretpaw enjoys studying those around him. Reading others comes naturally to him, as he's able to pick up on body language rather well. This

history:
Rabbitflame and Tigerstep were examples of the everlasting love between two cats, a source of simplicity and raw affection within their Clan. Being two aging senior warriors, they enjoyed having grown up and now growing old with each other. Rabbitflame could often be heard joking affectionately with his mate, telling her he'd love every grey hair on her head as they got closer to becoming elders. But as wonderfully perfect as it might have seemed, there was one thing that had caused a rocky time during their life together. It still stood as a barrier they just couldn't seem to overcome, no matter how much they loved each other. Tigerstep had always wanted to be a mother, even when she was young, but apparently was unable to have any. After the second miscarriage, Rabbitflame refused to put his mate through such pain ever again and Tigerstep sadly agreed with his decision. The desire to have kits, however, never left her, and only developed into a stronger feeling as the moons rolled by. Tigerstep soon found herself at the grand age of thirty-nine moons, while Rabbitflame was already forty-two moons old. It's a common fact that cats don't live long out in the wild, and Tigerstep knew they weren't getting any younger. Before they knew it they'd be retiring to elders, reminiscing of their apprentice days and telling kits stories of seasons ago. Time was running out, and Tigerstep knew that she'd definitely never be able to have kits in a good few moons.
She approached Rabbitflame near the end of leaf-bare, presenting her plead for another try at kits. Her mate was reluctant at first, but gave in to the last bit of hope he saw in his loved one's eyes. StarClan blessed them with two healthy kits in late new-leaf, although Rabbitflame never knew why they were so generous and merciful to him and his mate. It was a day of rejoicing, and Tigerstep lovingly named the two kits with Rabbitflame at her side. The firstborn was a white tom with ginger patches, and knowing Rabbitflame had always wanted a son, allowed him to choose a name for the kit. He was named Ferretkit for his fur, and Tigerstep's mate could not have been prouder. The second and youngest of the two was a she-cat with her mother's distinct markings and color: a light brown tabby with smooth black stripes and some white on her chest and paws. This kit Tigerstep named Dustkit, for her light brown hue. All was well and happy, and before the two mates knew it, the day their kits would open their eyes came.
Ferretkit had bright blue eyes, while his sister had light green ones. The tom immediately was captivated by this world of color and sight, eager to go out of the nursery and explore. Dustkit politely stayed by her mother, but nonetheless as excited as her brother was. She waited for her parents' permission before venturing outside of the nursery, although Ferretkit had already bounded outside. It was obvious at the very beginning there were distinct differences between Ferretkit and Dustkit. Ferretkit appeared to be more spirited and energetic, boldly adventurous with no boundaries. Dustkit was quite the opposite, in that she was quiet, kind, and careful. Where Ferretkit was troublesome and proud, Dustkit was obedient and humble. The two balanced each other out, getting along thick as theives. Sometimes, though, there would be the common dispute when Ferretkit would want to do something and Dustkit told him it wasn't right, refusing to take part. It would ascend to Ferretkit arguing strongly with Dustkit while she unsuccessfully tried to calm him down. This detail of their relationship slightly made their parents uncomfortable, but they were able to deal with it naturally like any parents would. Even though Ferretpaw was the firstborn, Dustkit showed more maturity and sense of responsibility that would serve her well as a warrior one day. Ferretkit, on the other hand, had little to no regard for rules. This caused his parents to praise Dustkit and scold Ferretkit most of the time. Now, they loved both their kits, but parents aren't perfect, after all. Picking favorites is just something that happens.
Ferretkit was fully aware of right and wrong, intentionally causing trouble out of slight resentment of his parents and envy of his sister. This sparking sibling rivalry was attempted to be addressed by Rabbitflame and Tigerstep, but Ferretkit showed no repentance for any thing he might have done. The line was finally drawn when Ferretkit got into WindClan's herb storage and ruined the careful organization of it all, causing the medicine cat to work harder over the next few days. Ferretkit seemed immune to his parents' pleads and scoldings, almost pleased with himself for causing such chaos. It finally came down the day he and his sister should have been apprenticed that the leader, Blackstar, decided to take matters into his own paws. After some whispered words with Ferretkit's parents, Blackstar sternly explained to Ferretkit why he would not be made an apprentice today with his sister. He was told that his behavior was unacceptable among the ranks of honorable warriors and those training to become warriors. Since he refused to take on the roles that Clanlife required and continue to behave as a kit, a kit he should remain until he was deemed ready for apprenticeship. That day, Ferretkit watched in dark shame and the beginning of an angry grudge as his sister became an apprentice before him. This was supposed to be his ceremony, where he and his sister would receive mentors together and begin a whole new chapter of their life.
Ferretkit had been eating meat for quite awhile, so the presence of his mother was not necessary anymore. She felt bad for her son, but it was the leader's decision and she had no reason to stay in the nursery any longer. So she returned to the warriors' den with Rabbitflame, not too long before they retired to being elders. In all his embarrassment and grudging obedience, Ferretkit stayed in the nursery alone, despising his position and his name. Luckily there weren't too many queens in the nursery at that time, for Ferretkit was obviously too big to be there. He spent most of his days watching kits for queens, lounging about in camp and just watching the camp attend to daily needs. Ferretkit looked forward to finally being made an apprentice, being careful to not get into too much trouble. He was, however, the arrogant loud-mouth in WindClan, shooting off his mouth to anyone and anybody. He was able to keep it under control, though, for the sake of not being held back another moon. And to his extreme delight, Blackstar made him an apprentice a week before he became seven moons old. He was assigned a mentor, and was rid of his 'kit' name. Although he's one moon behind in his training compared to other apprentices his age, Ferretpaw is quite proud of his new ranking. He still holds a bit of a grudge against his sister, and the two rarely talk, mostly because Ferretpaw tries to avoid any conversations with Dustpaw. Suddenly, a few days before he was to be seven-moons-old, Blackstar and his deputy were killed by badgers. Since then Snowstar had taken his place, and Ferretpaw has seemed to have gotten a bit bolder and yes, a bit more of a troublemaker thanks to his arrogant and loud nature.
