Violetwhisper It's the eye of the tiger It's the thrill of the fight She moved her paws gracefully over the ground rustling barely a pine needle as she slid over the ground like a shadow. She paused her ears flicking forward and her whiskers twitching at the scent and sound of prey scuffling just ahead. she'd been tracking this squirrel since before moon-high. it was now near dawn. She sank low to the ground her belly fur brushing the pineneedles from her path. Her black fur faded into the dark pine forest like a shadow fades away from the coming sun. This had been the best trace of prey she'd seen in days. And it would be used for a special purpose. She needed it to begin the plan. To set it in motion. She narrowed her eyes and a smirk played at her lips at the thought of her plan. She would kill Hawkstar in the moons to come. Followed by that, she would insist upon going with Thunderbrook to the moonpool, where they would conveniently be attacked by a couple of starved foxes, who killed Thunderbrook and stole away her body. Violetwhisper would return leader and the decoys would have gained another clan under their control. She smirked again flicking her whiskers, but this was where it all started.
She moved through he shadows and came to about a tail length from where the squirrel nosed about looking for the few nuts it had stored away in preparation for leaf-bare. She watched it for a minute savoring the scent of healthy fresh-kill before she pounced quickly with perfect precision and killed it with a swift bite to the back of the neck. It fell limp in her jaws and she released it. She stood stepping gingerly from it's tail and glanced at the sky. Dawn was breaking just over the tops of the trees. She bent down and lifted her fresh-kill turning and trotting toward camp. She dipped her head to the guard who slipped in behind her and headed to the warriors den for a rest. Perfect timing as usual. She thought to herself and turned toward the leaders den.
She paused outside Hawkstars den and placed the freshkill gingerly on the ground. She took a deep breath bringing forth the feelings she'd forced herself to foster toward her leader, those of loyalty, love, honor and respect. She dipped her head softly sticking it just inside his den, past the barrier that cut him off from the rest of the clan, and called softly, in her best sweet, concerned and kind voice. "Hawkstar? May I come in?" Her voice seemed to echo off the walls of his den, but she'd been sure to be soft and calm, not wanting to wake himwith a start but more with a gentle whisper. Her violet eyes began to adjust to the dark den, but she pulled her head back and picked up the squirrel and waited for him to respond and allow her entrance to his home. This was the beginning of a whole new plan. The decoys would rise and the forest would be no match for their power. His dreams were haunted and restless, as they always were these days. The dear leader of ShadowClan had set out in his mission from Deputy to Leader with one goal in mind- ShadowClan would no longer be the terror that haunted kits, no longer would other clans gawk, or use their name as a negative word, he would prove that they were loyal, and could be as brave and noble as ThunderClan. That was all- and yet, his leader ceremony had promised bloodshed and destruction, word of cats called Decoys taking over. This he had feared and this he lived with- that was all, only until his mate as well passed away. The noble cat had kept himself together as much as he could but even he had to face the fact that the world was beginning to weigh on his shoulders.
He crawled from his nest, and shook the moss out of his fur, giving himself a quick grooming before moving to the back of the cave, the wall there was damp and cool and rough, gouged with claw marks from leaders before him. He rose onto his hind legs and stretched, raking his own claws down the rough surface, and heaving a sigh as he sank against it,although the air itself was already a bitter cold with leafbare. His clan, like all others, was beginning to go hungry, as prey was even scarcer than usual, making them even more susceptible to decoys. If there was no change, the Clans would die.
His ears flicked as he noted a sound behind him, and he turned, yellow eyes peering out of the shadows as a shadowy form filled the covered opening of his den, the scent of fresh kill and one of his warriors, Violetwhisper, giving him all of the information he needed, but the warrior quietly requested entrance, expecting him to be asleep, but the leader had slept lightly and restlessly for weeks, and could be found awake at many hours of the way. He turned to face her, moving forward so his broad, dark brown form moved into a sliver of light drifting through the hanging moss over the boulders that made his home. "Indeed, Violetwhisper." He answered, wrapping his tail around his paws and gazing at her with stark yellow eyes. "What may I help you with?"

Violetwhisper I walk a lonely road The only one that I have ever known She flicked her ears and her eyes flashed with excitement, the time had come, the moment of truth, could she pull it off or would Hawkstar see through her ruse? She smiled and flicked her tail lightly as her jaws held the squirrel aloft from the ground, it's tail dangling and it's tip dragging the ground. He spoke to her and she, with light paws slid into the den, her pelt brushing against the rocks smoothing her ebony fur down to her sides, and her eyes, her namesake shown in the dark of the den like stars in the black night sky. She allowed a softness, a gentleness to enter them that was reserved for only those close to her, or those she trusted, at least that's what she wanted others to believe. In fact it was a false softness, a gentleness and false honesty she had learned from her mother.
She came to a halt just inside the den, pausing to place the squirrel on the ground. She dipped her head and pulled her haunches under her wrapping her tail around her a mirror image of the way Hawkstar sat, though she was slighter than he, more feminine, and darker of course. She lifted her paws and nudged the squirrel towards him and lifting her eyes to him. Her voice came forth just as gentle, and caressing as it had been at the entrance to the den, "I don't mean to intrude, and I know this may not be my place but," She paused glancing down at her paws, as if gathering her courage to speak to her leader in such a way. She needed to appear as though this was being done for him, and not as a means to an end. That it was because of her concern for him that brought her to his den at this early hour, not because she'd planned it that way for evil or selfish purposes.
She looked back up at him her eyes flashing with concern and a hint of grief before she spoke again. "I want to be sure you're surviving." She chose her words carefully, not wanting to use the words alright, knowing that he was not, the tom had just lost his mate, and best friend, though she didn't know that pain she knew what it did to some cats. It tore them apart, ate at them from the inside out. The regret and sorrow bearing down on them like the weight of a fox on their shoulders. She blinked at him kindly opening her jaws to speak again, "I know you miss her, but you needn't punish yourself or your clan, by not taking any fresh-kill" She said and let her eyes betray a hint of fear for him. She pulled her paws back putting it back behind her tail and spoke again. "Your clan needs to see you strong, it will give us the courage to keep fighting, hunting, protecting our clan." She said her voice even, yet firm. She'd made sure to include herself in that final statement allying herself with the clan. Don't know where it goes But It's home to me and I walk alone (Lyrics Credit to "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day)

He listened to the speech, his jaw going tense with the words, his yellow eyes hardening and focusing entirely on her, gaze flicking to the squirrel, then back up at the black she-cat with burning violet eyes, something that was not typical around cats and yet was clear as day in this one. He studied her and her words for a moment- there was a flicker of something quickly suppressed in her eyes, but her voice showed such concern, he quickly brushed it away like an annoying bug in greenleaf.
Finally, after a long moment, he shook his head, and motioned toward the mouse. "Bring it to the apprentices. They're growing an need all the food they can get, while I can still hunt for myself, I assure you." He answered calmly, rising to his paws and stepping around her, motioning with his tail for her to follow. "I miss her, but I still have enough of myself to be more than half a cat." He chuckled, although it died quickly in his throat, coming out as more of a hoarse bark. Outside, the sky above had paled to pink, and the sun was rising steadily. Soon the clan would awaken, hungry and tired, and would attempt to pull together some nutrition for themselves. ShadowClan and WindClan were always the worst off, it seemed, as their food truly hid away during the winter. He destered it, snorting as he moved over to a branch about the width of his tail that the apprentices had left out after playing with it. "Although, all I have left it seems are my wits and my clan." He grabbed the branch on his teeth and moved it out of the center of the clearing, moving it off to the side- only to bite down and split the wood with a powerful bite. "And of course, brute strength- although we can be grateful that's never implemented, no?" He asked dryly, looking over at Violetwhisper.
Again, he motioned to the mouse, then flicked his tail towards the apprentices then. "Bring it to them if you will, and if you're not too tired, I'll be recruiting you now for a brief hunting patrol to see what the two of us can gather before cats starting waking up, wailing of hunger."

Violetwhisper I walk this empty street On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams Her head dipped at his request and she bent down lifting her catch and turning to follow him out of the den as he flicked his tail to her. She slipped back through the entrance, her pelt smoothing again against the walls, and her eyes adjusting to the growing light of the dawn in the clearing. She looked around and watched as Hawkstar moved a stick the apprentices had been playing with the day before. She was slightly amazed at his willingness to move forward with his life. This gave her a flash of respect for her leader. She placed the squirrel on the freshkill pile and turned to speak with him as he broke the twig with a powerful bite. "But your clan stands behind you and has it's own wits about it." She mewed flicking her tail around the camp. "And they'll follow you to the edge of Starclan and back." She said.
His comment about Brutestrength stuck in her mind, and she smiled lightly. "Shadowclan needn't brute strength when we have the shadows to conceal us." She bent down and lifted the squirrel again and bounded toward the apprentices den dropping it just inside and nudging the closest apprentice. "Hawkstar says to share this will the others before any of you go out today." She mewed and the lump of fur grunted in reply. She slipped back out of the den and turned back to Hawkstar who was asking her to join a hunting patrol. perfect She thought and her eyes betrayed excitement, but he may hopefully attribute that to hunting with the leader, more than anything else.
She padded forward her black paws sliding over the ground like individual shadows. For a moment she felt like part of her clan, a shadow among others, striving to survive against the elements of the forest, unaware of the growing danger. But that was short lived as she came alongside Hawkstar and glanced at him. She had a mission and she wouldn't forget that. Not for anything. She dipped her head to her leader and gave her chest a few licks before letting the look of determination cross her eyes. A look that could be interpreted as determination to serve her clan rather than a steelyness to bring him down. [iCrimsonstar will rule oneday She thought then forced the thoguht from her head as quickly as it came. She blinked up at Hawkstar and flicked her ears. "Ready when you are. Where to?" She mewed with a smile flashing at him and eyes betraying no other feeling than loyalty to her clan. He watched the she-cat carry the prey to the apprentices den, murmuring softly to them before returning to his side, questioning where they were going. She seemed excited, he noted, and this was refreshing for him, to see a warrior as excited as a kit for something so basic- so willing to help her clan. He beamed for a moment before turning and padded out of the camp, assured that she'd follow him, speaking over his shoulder. "We're going to go try out by the old Twoleg nest. It's sheltered, so prey might hang around there." He spoke quickly, picking up the pace as he exited the camp.
It was just as refreshing to go out so early, the air bitterly cold, but watery with sunlight, chilling his body but filling his lunged with the cold, frosty air. A light dusting of snow coated the pine forest, glinting harshly and causing both cats to stand out against the light background. Of course, Hawkstar knew how to hunt even in the snow with his dark pelt, it was easy to blend into the shadows, and he found it was natural for ShadowClan. The other clans regarded them as evil shadow dwellers however, so he had once thought it as a stereotype not to follow, but there was no choice when the snow fell- and when the darkness was your greatest ally, you should live to it, for it may be all you have.
He could now scent the twoleg nest in the distance and slowed his brisk walk, moving easily into the shadow of a pine tree, the brush around it thick and lush even in the cold, as it was a holly bush with bright red berries and dark green leaves with sharp points. He pressed into the darkness, his brown pelt blending, only his bright yellow-green eyes standing out. He turned to Violetwhisper, voice low. "The kittypets probably won't be out- but we should still be on guard- but we're here to hunt, not fight." He murmured, eyes flashing toward the nest again. "Needless to say, if they do show up and try to cause any issues," He sent Violetwhisper an amused glance, although it quickly faded back into his regular stone face, "We can show them ShadowClan's brute strength I mentioned earlier." With that, he branched away from her, moving off to the side of the next, sticking low and to the shadows, scenting for any sort of prey.

Violetwhisper Have you ever noticed every hurricane Gets its name from a girl like this? She followed him confidently out of camp, her eyes scanning the forest as they passed through it. She flicked her ears as he spoke giving direction to where they were headed and she nodded slightly adjusting her course slightly. Her black pelt faded in and out of the shadows as they weaved along their path to the twoleg nest. She flicked her ears forward taking in the sounds around her. The forest was silent, and eerily so. There was barely a sound that reached her ears from the trees around her, and her pawsteps seemed to echo around her in the silence and she stepped more gracefully not waning to scare away what little prey there was. They came to a stop near the twoleg nest in the shadow of a large pine tree. She fluffed up her fur slightly against the bitterly cold air surrounding her. A good hunt would warm her up, get her blood pumping, give her that rush she'd need to make it through another day.
She chuckled at his words on showing them the brute strength of Shadowclan. "No problems there." She mewed a smile touching her face, and glanced challengingly at the nest. Her violet eyes flashing daring a Kittypet to come from the nest, one that she could tear her claws into. She shook her head throwing the images from her mind, and turning watching Hawstar slink off searching for some scent of prey. She smiled and called softly after him. "First one on the other side of the nest with the most prey wins." She was playing on the fact that shadowclanners hated to lose. She dipped her head turning and slinking off in the other direction assuming they would meet up on the other side of the nest, hopefully both with some prey. She lifted her muzzle and parted her jaws letting the air carry scents over her tongue and scent glands. She could almost taste the hint of prey, slight though it was. She dropped to a crouch and slid along the shadows, her black pelt easily hidden in the shadow rising from the trees and touching the nest. The scent of mouse was strong on her tongue, and she felt her mouth water at the thought of tearing her claws and teeth into the being.
She flicked the thought from her head with twitch of her whiskers She moved away from the nest and back toward the trees finding the prey trail and following it. She came to a halt, her eyes falling on the small brown body of a mouse, its tail twitching, and his ears facing away from her. She leapt her claws sinking into the flesh and killed the prey with a swift bite. She scratched dirt over the prey and licked the blood from her lips before slipping over the ground again. following another minuscule scent trail. She swiftly killed a squirrel and another mouse before glancing at the sky. The sun was inching across the clearing and moving swiftly towards sunhigh though it was a while before. She decided she'd gathered enough. She collected her prey and padded toward the other side of the twoleg nest hoping that Hawkstar had won, because that would give her another reason to compliment him, and gain his trust and confidence, and perhaps a piece of his heart. She's a cat 5 kind keeps you up at night Hangin' on to the edge of a kiss (Lyrics Credit to "Storm Warning" by Hunter Hayes)

He heard her voice over his shoulder- a competition. A dare. A challenge. He turned and peered at her as she disappeared into the shadows. A bit of fun? No, this couldn't be fun. This was feeding the clan, the clan and nothing more- and yet, he flexed his claws and slipped back into the shadows, scenting for some prey, something to feed the clan- and finding the scent of a rabbit. It was rare that they wandered into - in fact, he couldn't remember the last time it had happened... When he finally found the creature- he found why. It was a twoleg pet, smelling heavily of forest now, and he could only assume it had slipped out of the nest and been forgotten, although it was still fat and healthy, albeit scared. He scoffed to himself- what self respecting cat, even a kittypet, would let such a creature go unharmed? It could feed cats for days...
He didn't hesitate. A strong leap and a swift bite killed the fat creature, and he purred happily to himself. Even a twoleg pet would make a better meal than the half starved squirrels running around. In the next while, he caught two more mice and dragged his haul around to where Violetwhisper would be waiting, spotting the she-cat also rounding the corner with her prey. Padding over, he dropped the fat rabbit at her paws. "Seems like the twolegs forgot about this one." He mused, sitting and wrapping his tail around his paws. "Today, the clan will go decently fed- they'll be pleased, since there's a chance we won't bring in a haul like this until Newleaf at the earliest." He glanced at her catch, and seemed amused. "And it seems we're at a tie."[/blockquote]

Violetwhisper She's a beautiful mess The kind you love to love Her violet eyes found his as he padded toward her. They widened at the sight of the fat, healthy looking rabbit. "It seems so!" She said smiling brightly, something she rarely did, but something that she knew a 'normal' warrior would do regularly. She bent down and sniffed his catch counting it and then rose her eyes finding his, "It seems we have." She flicked her ears and glanced to the sky, still quite a bit of time, she needed to gain his trust more, to get closer, she needed to convince him he wanted to spend more time with her, get to know her better. She smiled knowing this was where her mother had taught her best, manipulation was her weapon of choice. "The clan will surely be pleased by such a catch this early in leaf-bare, it may just tide us over." She said a sly look on her face "So what now?" She figured they would find no more prey here, the scent of blood, and death clung in the air like fog to the pines. She didn't mind it but she knew most prey would scatter from the area, like mice from claws.
She looked to the twoleg nest, wanting desperately for a kittypet to come out and challenge them. Perhaps if he could save her, he would be attached to her. She flicked the thought from her mind, he would save her because she was a clannmate, not because of anything else. Perhaps the wounds left by Peachblossom were still to fresh. Maybe that's where she should start, no, he seemed happy out here with her, serving his clan. She smiled, he was quite loyal. More than most of the decoys, that she knew. A flash of respect crossed her eyes and she scolded herself, she wasn't here to respect him, she was here to gain his trust so that when the time came she could kill him, and no one would suspect her. She flicked her gaze back to him and smiled lightly. "Shall we take this back and look elsewhere or shall we lay back and watch the clouds pass by?" She said with a hint of humor in her tone.
She looked up at the sky for a moment her gaze shifting from cloud to cloud. She felt a breeze pass over her pelt, and she shivered, its chill going down to her bones. She relished the feeling of cold, the snow packed earth, the leaf bare trees in all other territories but her own. Snow rarely made it to the ground beneath the pine trees. Their branches remained thick with needles, though no-cat new why. She shifted her gaze to some of those sturdy pines now a few fox lengths from the twoleg nest outside of which they stood now. THey are like us, never changing, always remaining the same, hiding in the shadows waiting to drop on any who enter without permission She thought and smiled to herself her claws digging into the ground and again desiring for a good tussle. She subsided herself and looked back at Hawkstar her eyes dancing. But what happens next I got a feeling when the sun comes up I'm gonna wish I had a storm warning (Lyrics Credit to "Storm Warning" by Hunter Hayes)

He chuckled, a still choked sound, and shook his head at her comment. "Relaxing may sound pleasant, but the clan does need food now." He glanced back at Violetwhisper, and felt a pang in his heart. He had frequently gone hunting with Peachblossom, and now she was gone- what else would he loose in his life, aside from his nine lives? He turned his yellow eyes in the sky, to keep his mind preoccupied, watching the fluffy white clouds scurry across, promising no more snow at this particular moment, although the air was still bitterly cold.
Said cold had chased most prey away for leafbare, and most of the clans, aside from the ever persistent RiverClan, were quickly going hungry. Most warriors slept at night without having had a morsel of food all day. Now, with this prey, his cats could say they had slept with full bellies- potentially the last time of the entire season. He knew this year, stomachs would growl at all hours, cats would grow thin and weak, and fights would erupt from irritable hunger.
And this was all falling on the shoulders of a new leader. A new, newly grieving leader. As if that wasn't enough on his case, these sudden deaths, the prophecy that he had seen after regaining his nine lives, the threat that seemed to be everywhere at once, with no one to confide in- it all seemed hopeless. He heaved a sigh, sending Violetwhisper a sad glance, "These are dark times, my friend. The clans will go hungry, and there is just so much bloodshed, so much unnecessary blood spilled, the lost of so many lives... Families torn, cats at each other's throats, and the loss of it all..." He shook his head and rose to his paws. "And its been thrust into my paws. Brackenstar died, and I was instantly public enemy number one. The sudden deputy made leader succeeding, in this chaos? Blasphemy." He gave a short, sad laugh, and looked suddenly tired, "It seems all to much on these clans, and I feel less than qualified. I just pray to StarClan I won't fail those cats I have left, those I haven't lost whom I sitll care for." With great care, he gathered up the two scrawny mice and the fat rabbit, and began to pad back through the pine forest, assured she'd soon be on his heels.

Violetwhisper Trust in me, just in me Shut your eyes and trust in me With his chuckle she brought a smile to her face, her eyes lighting up slightly at his humor. "Of course Hawkstar. This will be the best our clan may eat this leaf-bare." She said touching his shoulder gently with her tail tip, a gesture of friendship that she rarely showed. She let her smile linger on her face My my my, what a show I'm putting on. She thought, her eyes turning toward the trees. She turned her ears back to him as he spoke, his words hitting her like frozen rain. She felt a twinge in her heart, and it stirred an emotion she hadn't felt in many moons. Pity. She looked at him as his words fell on her ears and she touched his shoulder again letting her tail Linger. This is the moment of truth. I need to encourage him, prod him in just the right way to get him to open up to me. She thought before removing her tail from his shoulder, but slowly letting it slide down his leg, in a comforting caress she'd seen her mother use many times. "You will not fail us. Your clan will follow you to the end and back again, without question." She murmured.
She bent down and picked up her catch, the squirrel tucked between her chin and her chest, and the mice dangling from her jaws by their tails. She trotted quickly, looking as awkward as she did, but relatively gracefully, catching up to him and padding beside him in silence. She allowed her words to sink in as they padded in silence. As they neared the camp, she ducked inside the entrance and deposited her catch on the fresh-kill pile before turning to Hawkstar allowing her eyes to brim with that concern, and care for her leader she didn't actually feel. "If there is anything I can do..." She paused and glanced at the warriors den as if it were too far away from him for her comfort. She turned her gaze back to him and touched her tail again to his shoulder, this time allowing it to linger as she finished her sentence "even if it's just a listening ear. I'm not far away." She mewed and let her tail drop, sweeping it around behind her and sighing, looking around camp. This was the first moment her tiredness actually hit her. She felt it growing from her paws, but she refused to give it any pawhold. She looked back at Hawkstar and smiled gently. "If there is anything you want to talk about, let me know." She said and paused waiting for his response. You can sleep safe and sound Knowing I am around (Lyrics Credit to "Trust in Me" from The Jungle Book)

As they reached camp again, Hawkstar relaxed, it was soothing seeing his clan awake now, bustling around despite their body, hungry bodies. A few turned to look as the scent of fresh kill entered, and they stared as a starving man might. This, however, caused a pang to once again form in his heart. His clan was starving- he couldn't remember the last time they'd had a leafbare at it's very beginning be so harsh.
He padded over to the fresh kill pile and dropped his catch next to Violetwhisper's, happy to see another two meager mice, meaning cats had been hunting today, and from the missing faces around camp, he could also assure himself hunting patrols were out. Violetwhisper began to speak, and he turned to face her, staring into her eyes with a strong yellow gaze, which was uncharacteristically warm- some of the first warmth he had shown since Peachblossom died. "It's humbling, Violetwhisper, to know I have a loyal cat to turn to." He murmured, offering a soft smile, flicking her shoulder with his tail, dipping his head to her then motioning to the fresh kill pile. "Be sure to feed yourself, you deserve it."
He grabbed a mouse for himself, and padded over to the shadow of the highrock, where the snow was barely a thin frost on the hard packed earth, and lowered himself down to eat his meal, although he had to admit he wasn't very hungry- but it was all his emotions, his nerves, and he knew he needed the food, for if not for the unrest and grief in his heart, he would be as famished as the rest of the clan.

Violetwhisper Slip into silent slumber Sail on a silver mist She smiled lightly at Hawkstar her vilet eyes flashing with a well practiced humble gratitude at his praise. She dipped her head and watched him as he turned to take one of the smallest pieces of prey. Another small flare of respect flashed across her pelt but she squashed it almost imediately. His words, had settled the matter in her mind, she'd made the progress she'd needed to make, and much quicker than expected. Crimsonstar will need to hear of this. She thought to herself and turnec crouchin to pick up one of the mice from her catch and turning toward the warriors den. She lay down just outside and ate her meal in silence. As she finished and rose stretching her long limbs and tired muscles before she would take the remains of her mousse to bury them, she felt a wave of exhaustion sweep over her. She realized that she had been up since before moon high the night before, and it was now past sunhigh. She sighed and moved quickly ehr eyes half closed as she padded away to the dirt place.
She slipped back into camp and glanced around. She saw Hawkstar still barely touching his mouse, but the weight on her body was forcing her toward her nest. She slid into the den, stepping over a few napping forms before slidding into her nest on the far side of the den. She preferred to be as far from the entrance as possible but didn't enjoy sleeping with her back to anything but solid wall. She circled ehr nest once...twice, and then collappsed into the bracken her body falling into a well worn dip from her moons of sleeping in the same nest. She wrapped her tail around her body curing herself into a tight ball, her paws tucking up under her tail and closed her eyes. She felt her tail fall over her nose and she let out a smile. Tonight I will go see Crimsonstar, and with any luck I'll have Thudnerbrook dead in less than a moon, and I'll be appointed deputy. She sighed feeling the draw of power lulling her off into a secure and dreamless sleep. Slowly and surely your senses Will cease to resis (Lyrics Credit to "Trust in Me" From The Jungle Book)
