wandering | talking | thinking
the only sound in the darkness was the slight rustle of fallen leaves as a dark brown tail swept his tail over them. the moon was high in the sky, indicating that midnight was near. only one cat remained awake while the others slept, his form was sillouhetted in the darkness of the night, blue eyes peering around to find some other form of life in the camp. sharp ears twitched again and again as the sound of his clanmates breathing thrummed in his ears. he wanted nothing more than to be able to fall asleep on what was nothing less than a very peaceful night. listen to the snores of your clanmates. let them lull you to sleep.
his mind continued to tell him that and he continued to ignore it, knowing that no matter how hard he tried, it just wasnt going to happen on such a dull night. the apprentice, eclipsepaw, had done nothing to exhaust him this day. in fact, all he'd done was care for the elders. he hadn't even left the camp, hadn't even been able to stretch his long limb, hadn't been able to run with the other apprentices. this did not bother the insomniac, who normally fell asleep so easily. his paws itched to run out of the camp and hunt in the forest, his paws itched to dip themselve in the cool water and catch food for his sleeping clanmates while they slept.
he didn't want to do this however, he wanted to sit still. he ignored the twitching, the slight aching in his paws. he was practicing for his warriors vigil. he told himself thus, repeating it over and over. it would keep him awake. he knew it would. the siamese cat wanted nothing more than to be the best warrior he could possibly be. and that meant he should be able to sit still for a long period of time and gaurd his clanmates while the slumbered. he felt that this was an importance. if he could do this, he could do anything, right?
he was listening so well to his clanmates, that he noticed the rustling of someone awakening in their nest. he growled quietly to himself. so much for pretending to be on vigil. if he was on vigil, he couldn't talk. but how would he tell someone about this without talking. it was an improbibility. he again his at the inconveince this other cat was causing him. his head whipped around in the direction of the awakened cat. what are you doing up? he hissed softly, hoping the cat would notice he was there and not think they were hearing things.

J A D E S O N G , The night was one of Jadesong's most preferred times. Contrary to many, she actually liked the darkness. If the moon was shining the effect was only enhanced. However, she thought she was the only one who enjoyed a night - time wander. She only ventured out a couple of times each moon. This was simply because she did not want to suffer from a lack of sleep which would lead to, ultimately, her clan suffering due to her lack of participation in warrior activities. Now a large yawn parted her jaws, and with a gulp she realized she had given a little 'mew' afterward; she had felt her muscles in her neck and head stretch rather luxuriously. Had any cat heard? It was not so much that she would be frightened or worried if they had; she was not up to anything remotely sneaky.
However, she was aware that this could be viewed quite differently by other cats, who may even go so far as to say she was lying. Her loyalty could be questioned and that was something the tortoiseshell did not want to deal with. With a shake of her head, she cleared her thoughts and pricked her ears. Backwards. Forwards. With a flick in each direction, leaving them there for a heartbeat, she was satisfied that she had not been disturbed. 'That was close,' she murmured, her voice little more than a whisper. She made a mental note to remember her surroundings before uttering any kind of stretch or yawn again. She moved a little further back toward the familiar RiverClan camp with its clumps of reeds and mossy ground. It was a light rustling that alerted her that she was not entirely alone, as she had assumed.
Another cat was stirring, she was sure of it; that rhythmic thumping over the leaves was certainly a tail! Or perhaps she was just becoming overly - excited, desperate for the company of another on this partially moonlit night? She dropped down, now, suddenly overcome with caution. That was until a familiar scent wafted toward her nose; RiverClan. She had never been more relieved to smell it. She straightened up, soothing herself with a couple of quick li cks to her chest. She heard a whisper, cutting through the night, though chose to ignore it. 'I'm guessing you couldn't sleep, either?' She smiled as she spoke, hoping he would not regret her presence, or be intimidated. 'Well, at least I was feeling a little restless, it's been a rather boring day. .'
OTHER; I know it's kind of late of me to be replying to an open thread, but I hope it's okay if we continue. c;
