Another Problem

EDIT: I ALSO don't want your cats to be so mary-sue, meaning I don't want them to be like, "OMG LIVE IS SO PERFECT GOOO LIFE. I LOVE LIFE IT'S SO AWESOME NOTHING BAD HAPPENS!!" But like I said below, I don't want them to have a sorry history, as always feel sorry for themselves.


I've been wanting to say this for awhile, but I'm just now getting to it since today is a half-day, and it's Friday. Here it goes.

Not every cat has such a sap story. "Oh, Rosepetal wasn't a good hunter, so her parents disowened her." "Frogheart lost the battle with Bloodpelt, so his friends hated him." "Goldkit wasn't like her other siblings, so they hated her and picked on her." "Deadkit's brothers were stupid and ran out of the nursery one night and got themselves killed." "Thunderpath's paw was crushed by a Twoleg monster, and thus no Clan liked him." "Stupidhead with so stupid when he was born that his smart parent's tried to kill him, but failed."

I'm sorry, but that's what I'm seeing with mostly everyone's bios. Look at Graystripe, Hazeltail, Brackenfur, Brambleclaw, Sorreltail, Bumblestripe, Dovewing, and Ivypool. Do they have such "sorry and sap" lives? No. Sure, Hazeltail's brother died. Graystripe was captured by Twolegs and returned. Brambleclaw's father was a traitor. But they had good lives. Same goes with 90% of the cats in the real Warriors series.

I know I shouldn't be such a hypocrite, since Wildstar's parents and sister died, but his brother and niece lived. I did that purposely, however, because 99% of these cats have done "something that didn't make their parents / littermates / denmates / friends / leader" or whatever proud. Then they were disowned. I didn't want to make Wildstar like every other cat on Decoy Dreams.

I'm sorry if I sound rude and you take offense to it, but go through a few bios and you'll see it's true.

Navi is guilty. Oh so guilty. xD I have that going on with almost all of my characters.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I really didn't realize that I was doing it. ^^ In the future I promise to have happy histories. x3

It's okay. I'm somewhat guilty for Wildstar. Like I said in the c-box, I'm not mad. I'm confused why everyone wants a sap story, though. Then they would be just like every other cat on Decoy Dreams. I was only thinking about this again because I was accepting / declining / looking over bios. I wasn't planning to have my last two she-cat be all sobby over their history. Snowspider and Sootpatch will be happy-go-lucky she-cats.

I know what ya mean Cricket- I hope none of my chars are like that. o.O i don't think they are- I like simple-minded chars who just like to live life, don't have many problems, and yeah. xD

Ohh...I hope that my cat Foxfeather doesn't sound to mary-sueish. Her life was just really purr-fect, but more drama will come in soon enough. I have a little plot where she will be all like "Where did my perfect life go?! Idiot Starclan..." xD

I know I just signed up here, and haven't even made a bio(So it probably isn't even my place to say), but I think I know the the source of the problem here. It might be that people are finding it hard to write interesting backgrounds for their characters, (being at least a bare minimum of 5 sentences) without bringing up the sad sap stories, or the depressive neglect. Despite the fact that an average life should go to most cats. I've been looking around for a while here, like I do on most sites before diving in. So I saw that most people want some high positions, maybe even in preparation for a staff position, so they make older characters.
What you're probably looking at is a good reason for some limitations. At least until the problem resolves itself. People make older cats so that they can roleplay their character as an adult (basically) in the threads. So perhaps what you should do, is have those irregular backgrounds be reserved for cats who start at the ages where the abuse (or story) began, and roleplay it. This way the rp boards will get even higher activity as people develop their characters, but also members could be involved in each others history! How cool is that?
Anyways sorry if this idea is all over the place and hard to understand. I've just gotten home from school, and settling in. For now, I'll go back to working on my character!

that's why I have a young characters- I mean, Hawktalon is only 15 moons old! So he's just recently been made a warrior (pretty much) and Firepaw's just starting up as an apprentice- I like to develop their chars in rp, than any other form. Just makes it more interesting, and I seriously have trouble coming up with nice, non-bland histories for my chars. xD

I am so sorry! I am also to blame for this... My three most recent characters, Hailstorm included, have had sob stories. You're right - not all characters should have awful lives. And the majority of my first characters had nothing more then a simple sibling rivalry. But, in real life, no ones lives are perfect. If we could somehow find some middle ground, mary sues or super cold charaters wouldn't litter the site... My next character is going to be a super chatty, friendly little bugger, with a somewhat normal history. :3

I think everyone has some awesome points, and I'm sure almost all of us fall victim of this sometimes...

Flurrypaw - Yes, that idea sounds nice c: But there would be one problem to that. What if that cat wanted a real mother / father / anything else, but nobody wanted to play it? Or in someone's history, the ThunderClan's leader scarred -insernamehere- to death, then I didn't want Wildstar to do that? I'm sorry... it sounds weird the way I'm typing it, but in my head, it makes since... I just can't put it into words... =/ But I think that is a wonderful idea.

Ah, I understand what you mean by that. Those are problems, for sure. Though I guess that those are the sort of things that could be submitted for a review, or asked about in the bio. I only say that because it isn't like having a full grown cat who was old enough to have been scarred by another leader is bad, it's just that if the person started as a kit in our current time, the leader would be current and everything. Maybe what we should do is have stories that aren't so sad sap and such, able to be put into a bio for the cats that start at adulthood, but they could be taken away if they didn't meet the qualification for this type of "ban".
I know I'm probably just digging us deeper into this confusion pit, and the idea was just something I came up with when I first saw it, but maybe it could work somehow.
